Check your route below — then complete your Skills Scan to get started
You meet the standard entry requirements and can apply for the EWA directly
📹 Before your recorded interview: have your Level 2 (or Level 3) qualification certificate ready to share with your assessor. This must be provided prior to the interview taking place.
You’re ready to go. Complete the Skills Scan above — we’ll review it and book your interview.
From Skills Scan to Gold Card — your step-by-step pathway
The Skills Scan is the very first step for every candidate. It’s a self-assessment — not a test — that gives your assessor a clear picture of your experience, knowledge and background across the electrotechnical trade. Fill it in honestly; there are no wrong answers.
Once submitted, our team reviews it and contacts you to book your recorded eligibility interview via Microsoft Teams.
Your assessor conducts a recorded interview with you via Microsoft Teams — supplied and arranged by us. This confirms your eligibility and maps your experience against the qualification requirements. It’s a conversation, not an exam.
For Premium Package candidates, these recorded interviews are the foundation of your entire portfolio — our team uses them to write your candidate report on your behalf.
Your recorded interviews are used by our team to write your full candidate report — the industry’s first fully managed EWA service, City & Guilds approved. You talk, we write.
Once eligibility is confirmed, you choose your package — Standard or Premium — and enrol. Your online portfolio is set up and your assessor creates a personalised evidence plan showing exactly what you need to gather. Payment is only taken at this stage.
You collect evidence from your day-to-day work on-site. This includes photographs of installations, test results, witness testimonies from qualified colleagues, certificates and work records. All templates are provided — we don’t expect hundreds of photos, just a solid sample of the work you do.
If you’re missing certain evidence types, your assessor will guide you on how to generate it through your normal working activity.
Once you’ve gathered your evidence and completed your recorded interviews, our team writes all your portfolio entries and candidate report. You review and approve — we do the work.
Your assessor observes you working to confirm your practical competence. For all learners registered from 1 May 2026, the qualification includes an expanded direct observation requirement — so we now carry out three observations across your portfolio. All visits are included in the cost of your package.
📍 Visit 1 — Face-to-Face at Your Workplace: Your assessor attends your site in person. This visit always covers safe working and health & safety on site, plus one of the practical activities below — whatever you happen to be working on that day. Just 2 weeks’ notice required — we fit around your schedule.
📹 Visits 2 & 3 — Remote, Live-Streamed from Site: The remaining two observations are carried out remotely via a live video call from your workplace — no extra travel, minimal disruption. Across your three observations we need to see you carry out:
We’re flexible on which visit covers what — your assessor matches each observation to the work you’re actually doing at the time, so it fits naturally around your job. Where it makes sense, more than one of these can be captured in a single visit.
The 18th Edition (BS 7671) and the Initial Verification component of Inspection and Testing (2391-50) must be completed before the end of your EWA. Certain units within the qualification cannot be signed off without them.
If you don’t yet hold these, we can bundle them into your package — just mention it when you apply. We recommend most candidates aim for the full 2391-52, as this also supports your future application for Approved Electrician status on the ECS Gold Card.
Once your portfolio is complete, you sit the AM2E — the Assessment of Occupational Competence for Experienced Workers. This is a practical exam conducted independently by NET (National Electrotechnical Training) and is not included in the cost of either package.
The AM2E takes place at an approved NET centre where you demonstrate your practical competence. Your assessor will advise you on timing, booking and preparation when you reach this stage.
On successful completion of your EWA portfolio and the AM2E assessment, you are awarded the C&G 2346 Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification. This is your formal NVQ Level 3 — and the key to unlocking your JIB / ECS Gold Card.
With your assessor’s support, many candidates complete in as little as 8–12 weeks — depending on how quickly evidence is gathered and observations are scheduled. The maximum registration period is 18 months.
Flexible payment options available on both packages — spread the cost with 0% interest
The practical assessment of occupational competence is conducted independently by NET and must be booked and paid for separately. Your assessor will advise on timing and cost.
Required before the end of your EWA if not already held. Can be added as a bundle — ask us when you apply.
The Initial Verification component is required before completion. Can be bundled — we recommend the full 2391-52 for Gold Card progression.
If your qualifications were obtained abroad, an ECCTIS international qualification comparison may be required as part of the application process.
We can bundle the 18th Edition and/or 2391 Inspection & Testing into your EWA package at a reduced combined price. Simply mention it in your Skills Scan or enquiry and your assessor will put together a tailored quote.
Everything you need to know before you apply
To apply for the Experienced Worker Assessment, you need a minimum of 5 years of hands-on practical experience as a working electrician, plus a Level 2 electrical qualification (such as C&G 2365-02, C&G 2330, or an overseas equivalent). You must also be currently working in the UK, as all portfolio evidence must be gathered on UK sites and comply with BS 7671.
If you hold 5+ years of experience but don’t yet have a Level 2 qualification, you can apply via our Level 2 Recognition Programme first, then progress straight onto the EWA.
Yes — as long as you have 5 or more years of practical experience. You’d first complete our Level 2 Recognition Programme (City & Guilds 2365-02), which assesses your existing skills against the Level 2 standard. This involves MCQ exams at a centre and 2 practical assessment days. On completion, you progress directly onto the EWA — NVQ Level 3. Find out more about the Level 2 Recognition Route →
Yes — overseas qualifications and experience are both accepted. Overseas qualifications are verified through ECCTIS, the UK’s designated body for comparing international qualifications with UK standards. This is arranged as part of your application process.
Overseas work experience of 5 years or more is also recognised, provided all portfolio evidence is collected in the UK and meets BS 7671 requirements. Simply mention your overseas background when completing your Skills Scan and your assessor will advise on the process.
Not before you apply — but both must be completed before the end of your EWA. Specifically, you need the 18th Edition (BS 7671) and the Initial Verification component of Inspection & Testing (2391-50), as certain units within the EWA require them.
We recommend most candidates aim for the full 2391-52, as this also supports your future application for Approved Electrician status on the ECS Gold Card. If you don’t yet hold these, we can bundle them into your package — just mention it when you apply.
The Skills Scan is a self-assessment form — not a test — that helps your assessor understand your background, experience and knowledge across the electrotechnical trade. It’s the very first step for every candidate and must be completed before anything else. Fill it in honestly; there are no wrong answers.
Once submitted, our team reviews your Skills Scan and contacts you to arrange your recorded eligibility interview via Microsoft Teams. Complete your Skills Scan here →
Your assessor conducts a recorded interview with you via Microsoft Teams — we provide everything you need. The interview confirms your eligibility and maps your experience against the qualification requirements. It’s a structured conversation, not an exam or assessment — your assessor just needs to understand your background before you enrol.
Important: You must have your Level 2 or Level 3 qualification certificate ready to share before the interview takes place. Your assessor will ask to see it.
Your portfolio is built from evidence of your day-to-day work. This can include:
All templates are provided. If you’re missing certain evidence types, your assessor will guide you on how to generate it through your normal working activity.
Yes — all observations are included in the cost of both the Standard and Premium packages. There are no additional charges.
For learners registered from 1 May 2026, the Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification carries an expanded direct observation requirement, so there are three observations in total.
The first is a face-to-face visit to your workplace, where your assessor observes you working — always covering safe working and health & safety on site, plus one of the practical activities below. Just 2 weeks’ notice is required and we fit around your schedule.
The remaining two observations are carried out remotely via a live video call from your site. Across the three observations your assessor needs to see you:
We’re flexible on which visit covers what — your assessor fits each observation around the work you’re actually doing at the time, and more than one activity can be captured in a single visit where practical.
With the support of your assessor and prompt submission of evidence, many candidates complete the EWA in as little as 8–12 weeks — the fastest route in the industry. The maximum registration period is 18 months.
Completion speed depends largely on how quickly you can gather evidence and schedule your observations. Your assessor will help you plan the most efficient timeline from day one.
Both packages lead to exactly the same outcome — the C&G 2346 NVQ Level 3 and Gold Card eligibility. The difference is in who does the writing.
With the Standard Package (from £1,795 + VAT), you gather your evidence and write your own portfolio entries, with your assessor’s guidance and feedback throughout.
With the Premium Package (£2,495 + VAT), you still gather your evidence — but our team conducts recorded interviews with you via Microsoft Teams and uses those recordings to write your entire candidate report on your behalf. Both packages include all site visits.
After your eligibility is confirmed and you enrol on the Premium package, your assessor conducts a series of structured recorded interviews with you via Microsoft Teams — all equipment and access is supplied by us. During these sessions, you talk through your experience, your work, and your knowledge of the electrotechnical trade.
Our team then uses these recordings to write your full candidate report — mapping your responses to the qualification units and standards. You review and approve the report before submission. You collect the evidence; we do the writing. This service is City & Guilds approved and is the first of its kind in the UK.
The AM2E (Assessment of Occupational Competence for Experienced Workers) is a practical exam conducted independently by NET (National Electrotechnical Training). It is the final step before your NVQ Level 3 is awarded and demonstrates your practical competence in a controlled assessment environment.
The AM2E is not included in the cost of either package — it is arranged and paid for separately through NET. Your assessor will advise on booking, timing and how to prepare when you reach this stage.
The AM2E is taken after your EWA portfolio is complete and signed off by your assessor. Your assessor will guide you on the right timing and help you prepare for what to expect on the day. It takes place at an approved NET centre.
There is no payment required to apply. Payment is only taken after your Skills Scan and recorded eligibility interview are complete and your assessor has confirmed you are eligible for the programme.
Payment plans are available on both packages with a deposit of £450–£500 and monthly instalments over 3, 6 or 12 months. All plans are 0% interest. A one-off £99 establishment fee applies to all pay-by-month plans. Full upfront payment avoids this fee.
Absolutely — many candidates have their EWA funded fully or in part by their employer. We can issue invoices to companies and arrange payment directly. If you’d like us to liaise with your employer, mention this when you apply and your assessor will arrange everything. Get in touch to discuss →
