The 2396 Level 4 is the recognised qualification for electricians moving into design roles — creating electrical specifications, verifying compliance and signing off complex installations.
EAL TELCO qualifications open the door to the rapidly growing data centre, 5G and telecoms infrastructure sectors — some of the best-paid electrical work available.
With Level 4 and Gold Card combined, you can take on inspection, verification and consulting roles on large commercial and industrial projects.
Frequently asked questions about our Level 4 and specialist courses.
Not necessarily. The prerequisites for the 2396 Level 4 are the 18th Edition and a Level 3 Inspection & Testing qualification (2391). You don’t need to hold a full ECS Gold Card, though many candidates do. What matters is that you hold the specific prerequisite qualifications.
The 2396 course runs over 8 evenings via virtual classroom, plus 1 day in centre at either our London (Isleworth) or Manchester (Hyde) venue for the final assessment. This format is designed for working electricians — you don’t need to take time off work during the course.
The 2396 qualification is increasingly required for roles such as Electrical Design Engineer, Electrical Consultant, Site Manager/Supervisor, and Approved Inspector. It’s also valued by larger contractors and public sector bodies who need qualified sign-off on electrical designs and verifications.
The TELCO courses (L03 and L04) are EAL-accredited qualifications for electricians entering the telecommunications sector. They cover DC electrical systems, telecoms infrastructure, and specialist installation techniques for data centres and telecoms sites. The L04 Fast Track is for those who already hold full electrical qualifications.
Yes. As with all our courses, 0% interest payment plans are available. Contact us to discuss the options — terms vary by course. Typically a deposit is required with the remainder spread over 3–6 months at no additional cost.
In theory yes, but we’d recommend completing your 2391 Inspection & Testing first as it’s a prerequisite for the 2396. Many students complete their Gold Card qualifications first and then move into the Level 4 as the natural next step. Call us and we can advise on the right sequencing for your situation.
